Having presented at the HEARRING Network Meeting in Perth, Western Australia last week, here are the key points from my lectures:
1. Highlighted the variation in cochlear implant (CI) candidacy criteria between countries and regions. Surely, it shouldn’t matter where you live?
2. Need to continually challenge candidacy criteria with strong evidence, to ensure maximum number of patients have option of CI
3. Highlighted the potential benefit of assessing CI candidacy in each ear separately.
4. Our experience of excellent compliance with CI in one ear and HA in the other ear, suggests children can benefit from bimodal hearing
